Visit our gallery this October to see the beautiful ‘Infinity’ drawings of Dutch artist Marjon Barton. Made with ink on paper, these intricate artworks are formed from repetitive connecting representations of the symbol for infinity ‘∞’ creating structures balanced on the point between chaos and order.
The series, which began during a difficult time of great love and loss for Barton, becomes a meditative process for the artist, with each piece a half-conscious, half-subconscious creation.
‘As I was drawing, fissures appeared serendipitously. They intrigued me and I was curious to see what would appear and where. To challenge myself, I started to create rules: going in one direction only, symbols have to touch, size has to alternate, etc.’
Many of the artworks contain a red embroidered thread or other red markings; in Asia, there is a belief that one person is connected to another by a red thread which destines them to be lovers, regardless of place, time or circumstance. This cord may stretch or tangle, but never break and each person experiences a different journey to follow it.
