A Dragon's Home @ Amanaki Thao Dien

Based in Bruxelles Belgium, Sébastien Duranté is a visual artist that works on a multitude of supports to create pieces mixing artistic references and everyday objects.

Trained at the École Supérieure des Beaux Arts Montpellier, he considered his practice as a field of research and experimentation around various techniques.

Sebastien appropriates the artworks he creates and is inspired by the cultures he meets during his travels. He has acquired a solid technical background allowing him to work in his studio with bronze, marble and even resins to reproduce "art" such as artifacts, public sculptures in the broadest sense.

With “A Dragon’s Home” exhibition, he seals three months of artistic residency spent between Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh city, as Laureate of the Villa Saigon, artist residency program of the French Institute of Vietnam.

All his artworks by oil painting & ceramic is exhibited with 11:11 d’Artistes until end of 7th May 2023.

From the West to the Far East, through the cultures of the countries along the Silk Road, Sébastien Duranté explores in this exhibition the fantastic figure of the dragon in an installation created between Hanoi and Saigon. Around a hut made of bamboo, dragons - protectors of all animals - sit, discuss and play.

Their representations create a "dragon friendship", welcoming other species, which, represented on furniture, screens and lamps, play with the codes in this imaginary house.

Influenced by the work of Đặng Quý Khoa and his residency in Saigon, Sébastien offers the public an engaged and surprising installation, which will immerse visitors in a colorful and festive universe, while raising awareness of the issues of our relationship to the animal world

Through the VILLA SAIGON program, the French Institute of Vietnam aims to create a bridge between the French contemporary art scene and Vietnam.

Each year, it invites several artists from different disciplines to develop a creative project in Vietnam, in close collaboration with local partners.

For the 2023/2024 season, the French Institute of Vietnam is opening its program to 6 residencies in Ho Chi Minh City, and 4 off-site residencies in Dalat and Hoi An, with a set of resources made available to artists to carry out their project.
