"Waldstein" is the first solo piano concert of the ambitious project "32 Sonatas of Beethoven - The Journey of Infinite Creativity" performed by pianist Nguyễn Đức Anh. This will be the first complete performance of all 32 sonatas by the great German composer Ludwig van Beethoven in Ho Chi Minh City.
Throughout the nine-concert series, the sonatas have been carefully curated by pianist Nguyễn Đức Anh with the aim to ensure a seamlessly harmonious and artistically cohesive experience for the audience.
The famous Waldstein Sonata, which lends its name to this concert, is also unofficially known as "L'Aurore," meaning "The Dawn." Through the Waldstein Sonata, Beethoven masterfully captures and conveys the boundless positive energy bestowed by the morning's first lights. Therefore, the name Waldstein was chosen for the opening concert to reaffirm the positivity that classical music can bring to its audience. The "Waldstein" Piano Recital will include four sonatas: No. 1 (Op. 2/1), No. 13 (Op. 27/1), No. 21 (Op. 53), and No. 24 (Op. 78). These sonatas were selected for the first installment in the series as they are milestones in the composer's artistic stages, so as to provide the audience with a diverse and colorful musical experience.
As a prominent pianist of his generation, Nguyễn Đức Anh has received numerous prestigious international awards, including the Alkan-Zimmerman Prize (2014). He has also made significant contributions to the classical music scene in Vietnam. The journey of infinite creativity is only just beginning, and "Waldstein" is the first step in this passionate and challenging endeavor. Come and immerse yourself in the timeless beauty of Beethoven's works in Ho Chi Minh City at a rare and special event in classical music in Vietnam and the world.
The concert series "The Journey of Infinite Creativity" is co-organized by Saigon Classical, Arietta, and pianist Nguyễn Đức Anh, with a planned schedule of events from July 2023 to July 2024. Information about the project can be found on the official Fanpage of Saigon Classical and Arietta Vietnam.
