Saigon Classical and Vietnam Connection Music Festival (VNCMF) are excited to continue reuniting with our audience in the upcoming concert "In Recital: Christophe Alvarez" as part of the "A Master Series Concert" project, which aims to bring high-quality concert performances.
Christophe Alvarez is known as a pianist, Doctor of Music and Musicology, conductor, and composer. He currently teaches at the "Gheorghe Dima" National Music Academy in Cluj (Romania) and serves as the Artistic Director of the SCENA International Music Festival. This recital will also feature artists: Chuong Vu (Violinist), People’s Artist Tran Thi Mo (Cellist), and young artist Dao Vu Nhien Huong (Pianist).
The concert will present poetic works, opening with “La Valse, or Waltz, a choreographic poem for orchestra” arranged for piano four hands by Ravel. "La Valse" was described by Paul Landormy as "Ravel’s most unexpected creation, revealing to us the profound and unfathomable depths of Romanticism, power, vitality, and exuberance of an artist whose expressive range can rival that of a classical music genius."
The gentle, delicate and charming suites of Jean-Philippe Rameau and Claude Debussy will follow La Valse. The music will settle in Bach's serene Toccata in E minor, BWV 914 before rising and drifting once more with Frédéric Chopin's famous Barcarolle, a work wistful and dreamy, to gently guide the soul through endless waves of emotion. The concert will also feature two works by composers who were contemporaries of Chopin: Robert Schumann’s "Fantasiestücke, Op. 73," a poetic piece filled with diverse emotions in each movement, from dreamy and gentle to passionate and dynamic, and Clara Schumann’s "Piano Trio in G minor, Op. 17," considered her most successful and famous composition.
