From the glamorous capital of Vienna, the virtuosic violinist Gernot Winischhofer will bring a cascade of sweet, soulful melodies to Saigon. Embracing the violin since his youth, he has conquered prestigious stages worldwide, from soulful solo performances to grand symphonies. Moreover, he is a Doctor of Music and Musicology, conductor, and composer. He currently teaches at the "Gheorghe Dima" National Music Academy in Cluj (Romania) and serves as the Artistic Director of the SCENA International Music Festival. Trained intensively at the Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow under the guidance of Valery Klimov, and inheriting the refined style of the legendary David Oistrakh, Gernot has performed at major music festivals such as Budapest, Salzburg, and Vienna, collaborating with renowned conductors from around the globe. With a precious 400-year-old violin carrying the sacred spirit of his predecessors, he will transport audiences into a romantic musical realm where the strings resonate like heartfelt confessions.
On his Asian tour, Gernot will grace Ho Chi Minh City in the concert "In Recital: Gernot Winischhofer and Special Guests," organized by Saigon Classical and the Vietnam Connection Music Festival (VNCMF) as part of the "A Master Series Concert" project-bringing high-caliber concerts to music lovers. The concert will also feature two guest artists, pianists Nguyễn Huy Phương and Sun Young Ju, who frequently perform in recital programs and chamber music concerts both domestically and internationally. Artist Nguyễn Huy Phương holds a Doctorate in Arts from the Moscow Conservatory and is currently the Vice Director of the Vietnam National Academy of Music. Sun Young Ju, from Korea, holds a Doctorate in Arts from the University of Kansas, USA, and is currently a piano faculty member at Nguyễn Tất Thành University, the Music Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Youth Orchestra, and a member of the Ho Chi Minh City Ballet Symphony Orchestra and Opera (HBSO).
"In Recital: Gernot Winischhofer and Special Guests" will transport the audience back to the early 19th and 20th centuries-the dawn of Romantic music, when the creative flames of artists burned brightly. Marked by the passionate expression of emotions, rich melodies, and freedom in composition, composers like Schubert, Brahms, Zemlinsky, Kreisler, and Pablo de Sarasate significantly shaped this musical movement from its nascent stages to the post-Romantic era.
In this emotional stream, the program will feature beloved and widely cherished works, showcasing a range of styles and moods-from the tender romanticism of Franz Schubert to the bold, fiery spirit of Johannes Brahms, the enchanting, folkloric melodies of Pablo de Sarasate, the joyful elegance of Kreisler, and the lingering romance in Zemlinsky’s twilight piece, capturing the final glow of the Romantic era. We warmly invite you to join us!
