After more than two decades of anticipation, the play “If You Were Still Alive” finally takes the stage, marking its transition from literature to theater. Based on the novel of the same name by writer Van Le who won the Ministry of National Defense’s literature award and was licensed for publication in South Korea – the play tells the story of a young soldier who perished on the very day the war ended. Through an imagined afterlife, it explores themes of sacrifice, loss, and the enduring values of compassion and patriotism.
Under the direction of renowned screenwriter-director Viet Linh and co-director Le Chi Na, “If You Alive” preserves the poetic essence of its literary origin, vividly portraying a tragic yet heroic chapter of Vietnam’s history. This production is also the first war-themed play by Hong Hac Theater, featuring a stellar cast including Ba Nam, Ly Anh Tuan, Chau Uyen, Thuy Duong, and many more, with an evocative score composed by Phuong Do.
