To celebrate the release of his new collection, Zombie Vomit Mad Libs, Duy Đoàn will lead a poetry reading on Saturday, June 28 at Pages of Passion.

Zombie Vomit Mad Libs is Duy's follow-up to The Games We Play, winner of the prestigious Yale Series of Younger Poets that Saigoneer covered upon its release and poet Carl Phillips, the series editor, explains in the introduction: “It’s as if soccer is its own Olympus, with stars like Messi and Iniesta as its gods. Which is to say, soccer becomes an ideal that the rest of life gets measured against. And in the taking of that measure, Đoàn tells us that everything else is found wanting.”

Of the new collection, Poetry Northwest noted in its favorite books of autumn 2024: "Zombie Vomit Mad Libs by Duy Đoàn  includes all the play, allusion, and potential violence of its title. It brings diacritics to English, suicides to lists, and screenplays to poems with a frantic, perplexed drive. Like the author’s debut, narrative arcs are unpredictable across the text: vampiric characters kiss, religious symbols cross conversion therapy. The volume cites movies and other texts with the scattered, interrupted brief thoughts that characterize its zombieness like a new genre of horror on the page." 

Duy will be joined by poetry from Jasmine Ho, Paul Christiansen, Dỗ Quyên and Hoàng Thu Hằng.
