THE TRAGIC LOVE SONG “IF I COULD STILL LIVE”
At the request of many audiences, Hong Hac Stage will restage the play “If I Could Still Live” on 3/5/2026.
In 1995, while working on the film Chung cư, director Việt Linh was introduced by director Vinh Son to the novel “If I Could Still Live” by writer Van Le with the comment “good but difficult to adapt.” Haunted by the novel’s humanistic content, unique setting, and her own wartime experiences, Viet Linh began writing the screenplay “If I Could Still Live,” which won the A Prize at the National Screenplay Competition in 2007. However, due to various reasons, the project was not realized. Regretting that a remarkable literary work (winner of the Ministry of National Defense Literary Award and published in Korea) had faded into obscurity, Viet Linh adapted the screenplay into a stage play—the first war-themed production of Hong Hac.
Although expressed through a different artistic form, the play “If I Could Still Live” preserves the poetic quality and profound literary message: after many losses, our nation—a nation that loves its homeland and values humanity and righteousness—ultimately prevailed.
SUMMARY:
