ECHOING WHISPERS — A TREASURY OF VIETNAMESE FOLK TALES

"Perhaps folk tales are as relevant as ever in our interconnected, globalised world. Where borders lie, folk tales challenge these demarcations and serve as proof of the things we share in this time of heightened difference. Folk tales cannot save us from conflict, and yet they have endured conflict, displacement, shifting lands across multiple historic eras."
— The Major Books Team (Treasury of Vietnamese Folk Tales, 2026)

We are delighted to present Echoing Whispers – A Treasury of Vietnamese Folk Tales, an exhibition exploring the enduring relevance of Vietnamese folk culture, with a focus on the portrayal of women and their roles in folk perceptions. Through 11 folk tales collected and compiled by the late scholar Nguyễn Đổng Chi, alongside over 40 illustrations by artist Jeet Zdũng, the exhibition invites the public into an enchanted realm of Vietnamese folklore through an interactive and , educational display.

Initiated by Major Books and co-organised with Studio ARTiculate, the exhibition forms a key chapter in a project bringing Vietnamese culture closer to international audiences. Hosted within the heritage space of the Temple of Literature, the exhibition aims to spark meaningful dialogues—allowing the quiet whispers of folklore, passed down through generations, to resonate across diverse ages and cultures.

Beside the main display, the project seeks to connect with the Hanoi public through a series of satellite events. Stay curious as further details about the exhibition and its accompanying programmes are soon to be revealed in the coming days!
