INTRODUCING THE EXHIBITION "NEVER BEEN HERE - NHƯ CHƯA TỪNG Ở ĐÂY" - NGUYỄN THÁI BẢO & HOÀNG PHẠM GIA KHANG
Gate Gate Gallery is pleased to present "Never Been Here - Như chưa từng ở đây," an exhibition featuring works by artists Nguyễn Thái Bảo and Hoàng Phạm Gia Khang. Through video, games, and interactive installations, the exhibition opens up a thoughtful dialogue on perception, the body, and presence, where technology serves not only as an artistic medium but also as an object of reflection.
Does knowing something mean becoming it? Or does becoming something mean fully understanding it?
Upon entering the exhibition, viewers follow an "intelligence" searching for its own form through the lens of Thái Bảo: an artificial consciousness inhabiting the body of a centaur, existing in a world to which it can never truly belong. In another dimension, Gia Khang's work draws our gaze toward the vast sky before bringing it back down to earth. Through a machine-vision system transformed into a pair of mechanical eyes above, we look up and suddenly realize that something has been looking down at us for a long time.
"How long have I, or it, been here, as if never present at all?" The exhibition invites viewers to move beyond conventional observation and experience the fragility of perception, lingering in the space where humans and technology intersect.
The exhibition is curated by Hà Châu Bảo Nhi, organized and produced by MakerLab VN, with support from Đại học RMIT Việt Nam and Gate Gate Gallery, in collaboration with Vietnam Media Lab and toong.
