Taku Hirayama (Oma - HK) & Cora @ The Observatory

A DJ of the highest-calibre, Taku is returning from extensive travel and play-time in Europe to bring us his refined, energizing, perpetually-rolling take on house & techno.

Music director and resident of what is arguably Hong Kong’s only underground electronic music venue, ‘oma’, dedicated DJ & general party-man: Taku’s sets are defined by his ability to balance a consistency with an undulation of groove that takes in anything from house to disco & techno.

Playing alongside key figures in the global underground electronic network, and recently at renowned venues such about blank and Goldengate in Berlin to Robert Johnson and a lot more - Taku will be arriving with even more experiential boom to add to the room.

TAKU HIRAYAMA - BIO

A DJ that has dedicated himself to dance music for years and run a tiny club “oma” as music director after the legendary Hong Kong club Yumla / Midnight&Co.’s closing.

Hailing from Fukuoka, a city in the south-west of Japan, Taku has been on decks since 2000 after stepping into the 90's club scene in his hometown. Collecting various good music and dancing for 15years, he’s still on his music journey to seek the groove between beats and beats. Growing up at “Kieth Flack”, a decent local club which for 20years has been the best sound system and setting in town, he learned what Partying & DJing is really about from his first residency there. He also gained experience in the local underground community by sharing decks with a number of talented DJs & bands in town. Notable among them were international guest DJs like Prins Thomas, Idjut Boys, Rub N Tug, DJ Cosmo, Tiago, Kristian Beyer, Edit-Select & Surgeon.

He relocated himself to Hong Kong for the first time in 2006 and had played at a number of clubs, bars and DIY parties until 2010. Yumla was definitely where he met booze, tunes and people in the metropolis. After millions of steps, he came back in 2013, nobody even himself expected this but his best favourite venue became his homebase. All of his experience and passion have been put into “oma” since he & his team took over - and it’s certainly getting support of many DJs and crowds in the city. Already becoming a spot where international guests visit, he still believes it’s “the place local DJs play their best”. Alongside oma, he & his team started the branch of Tokyo-based renowned music / production label “Jazzy Sport”. After several parties with them between Japan and HK, they’re now going to build up a base in Asia.

With leading the venue and playing every week, his DJ style ranges from disco, house, techno as well as taking essence of many other good types of music that’s going to be more shaped up and stripped down, getting more minimal but still telling a story at the end. 2014 is definitely a year that changed his mind for what goes into a party, he now mixes with a lot of excitement. Yahmang lives with dance music twenty-four seven.
