This exhibition will mark the release of Saigon Artbook Edition 6 and be the realisation of over a year’s worth of work from for the five artists, our small team of volunteers and our curator Shyevin S’ng of Vin Gallery, as well as the innovative design team at RICE Creative.
Hosted by The Factory Contemporary Arts Centre (FCAC), the exhibition will be an experiential voyage around Saigon’s newest and largest venue dedicated solely to contemporary art. The exhibition will feature an eclectic range of installation, photography, origami, painting, and print works. Made over the last year, their collections are all, directly or indirectly, related to Saigon. Most directly, Nathan’s prints draw directly from the infamous traffic, whilst Kumkum’s and Quỳnh’s works both incorporate materials found around the city. Alternatively, both Bảo and Vũ use their work as a lens, literal and metaphorical respectively, to document societal and cultural histories relevant not only in Saigon, but throughout Vietnam.
The experience of living in Saigon is one that we all have in common. With the aim of bringing the city’s art to life, SGAB hopes to connect the people of Saigon with the art being made all around them, to inspire and remind those living here of their role as both audience and actors in the everyday performance of life in Ho Chi Minh City.
