From the organizer: After a particularly hysterical, summertime hiatus, professional stand-up comedy returns to make you laugh your socks off and split your sides on Wednesday 26 October.
Headlining the latest incarnation of laughter, laughter and more laughter will be Newfoundland native and maple leaf wearing former English teacher, Brian Aylward.
First stepping on stage at a rowdy expat bar in Anyang, South Korea, Aylward went on to pioneer the local English stand-up comedy scene, officially establishing Stand Up Seoul in 2007 and turning the country into a legitimate destination on the international circuit.
Since his salad days, the Canadian has caused hysterics at hundreds of shows across Asia, taking his own brand of acerbic humour to the likes of Vietnam, Singapore, Malaysia, Cambodia, Hong Kong, China, Indonesia, Thailand and even Myanmar. Upon returning to that country north of the American border in 2010, Brian was twice a finalist in SiriusXM Radio’s Canada’s Next Top Comic and became a regular fixture in Canada’s Yuk Yuk’s comedy clubs.
Also on stage will be MC Steven Halcrow. Performing comedy in Asia for the past three years after moving to Cambodia from Scotland where he spent another three years cutting his teeth on stage, Steven runs the stand-up comedy shows in Siem Reap. Hailing from Glasgow with a built in propensity for anger, absurdity and friendliness, he has always seen comedy as a way for him to nurture his inner child, the same one that was prone to tantrums that saw him banned from using the lego at his nursery.
And naturally we will have some local talent for you. Two well-known faces will return - Diana Bailey and Tom McNulty - both of whom were finalists in this year's Big V Amateur Comedy Competition. Plus on stage for the first time at Game On will be Nathan Jaiyeola. Getting his start in the Philadelphia comedy scene, he has brought his calm delivery with big punchlines to audiences throughout southeast Asia.
Entrance is VND200K and includes a free Pasteur Street IPA. Doors are at 8pm and Game On Saigon is at 115 Ho Tung Mau, Q1, HCMC. For info click on facebook.com/saigoninternationalcomedy. Brian Aylward will also be performing at CAMA ATK in Hanoi on Thursday 27 October. For info click on facebook.com/camaatk/
