From the organizer: Dear Americans and friends of Americans in HCMC,
Many of us are deeply troubled by what Donald Trump is attempting to do to the United States and the world – from his un-American, anti-immigrant policies, to his decisions that will trash the environment, to his threats toward freedom of the press, to some truly scary cabinet nominations ... and the list goes on. If you’ve been feeling helpless, wondering what you can do from so far away, come join us for a craft beer and post-card-writing party this Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. at Heart of Darkness Brewery, 31D Lý Tự Trọng Street in District 1.
We’ll have blank postcards on hand, as well as addresses of congresspersons and sample letters for various issues. I’ll fly to the United States on Wednesday, February 8, and will mail them when I land to ensure they are delivered in a timely manner.
This is a non-partisan event. Republicans, Libertarians, and anyone else who is morally opposed to what Donald Trump is doing will be welcome among us. As a liberal Democrat myself, I feel it is important to recognize that a growing number of Republicans are speaking out against Trump. This is not a time to bash the Republican party as a whole. We need to invite and include all who are troubled by Trump’s un-American behavior and bigotry to unite with us in standing up for the integrity of the United States.
Non-US citizens are also welcome to join us. We understand that Donald Trump’s actions affect not just the United States but the entire world. We will have suggestions for how citizens of other countries can join us in protesting Trump’s behaviors and policies.
Also, many of you who are expats here have also been expats elsewhere. If you have friends in other countries, I urge you to tell them about what we are doing and encourage them to organize similar events wherever they are.
So come join us on Sunday. Write postcards. Meet new friends. Drink some delicious craft beers. (Non-alcoholic alternatives will of course be available!) And do something to alleviate that faraway, helpless sensation you’ve been feeling.
(*** Please RSVP so we can give the bar an approximate head count! *** )
