The new director for Vietnam will be working at Facebook’s Asia-Pacific headquarters in Singapore.
Facebook recently told Tuoi Tre that the tech giant has named Le Diep Kieu Trang, also known as Christy Le, as their new national director for operations in Vietnam. Trang used to be the CFO and COO of Misfit, a successful startup specializing in wearable technology, which was acquired by Fossil Group in 2015. She was the managing director of their Vietnam branch and vice president of operations for their international headquarters.
According to Kenneth Bishop, Facebook's managing director for Southeast Asia, with over 60 million users in Vietnam accessing Facebook on a monthly basis, it’s reasonable for the company to invest in human resources to better assist businesses, partners and marketing agencies.
Given Trang’s entrepreneurial background, the new job represents a significant career shift, as many within Vietnam's startup community had expected her to continue in startup ventures after Misfit and Fossil.
Trang will be in charge of business development for Facebook in Vietnam, and the 38-year-old director seems to be confident that she's the right person for the job. “With 97% of Vietnamese accessing Facebook via mobile platforms, we guarantee support businesses utilize smartphones’ capabilities to bring about business success in both national and international market,” Trang told Tuoi Tre.
Before Misfit, Trang was an alumnus of Oxford University in the UK and Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in the US.
