Officials in Lam Dong province recently announced their approval of a safari park to be built near Da Lat.
Bidoup-Nui Ba National Park director Le Van Huong told reporters his park has plans to construct a 490-hectare safari park, dubbed Highland Safari, in Lac Duong District north of Da Lat, reports Thanh Nien.
The project will be in conjunction with Da Lat Tourist and Bidoup-Nui Ba will contribute an estimated 65% of the cost, or VND1 trillion (US$44.85 million). Highland Safari's remaining funds will come from the state budget. If all goes according to plan, the safari park will be complete by 2020.
In order to construct the park, Bidoup-Nui Ba is currently consulting experts from Austria and Singapore. Once complete, local officials expect Highland Safari to pull in approximately VND300 billion (US$13.45 million) a year, serving 1.2 million visitors.
This will be Vietnam's second safari park; the first was opened by Vingroup in Phu Quoc last December.
Correction: An earlier version of this article erroneously stated that Vingroup was an investor in the Da Lat safari park. While Vingroup is the owner of Vinpearl Phu Quoc Safari, Vietnam's first safari park, the company is not involved in the Da Lat project. We regret the error.
