Last week, a Chinese national visiting Vietnam claims she did not receive the warmest of welcomes from Tan Son Nhat International Airport's passport control.
On July 23, a woman with the surname Zhong entered Vietnam through the southern hub, reports Asian Correspondent. Zhong alleged that the border guard at her window wrote the words “fuck you” in her passport over an image of China’s nine-dash line, which the country uses to make ownership claims over much of the East Sea. A recent international tribunal ruling in the Hague has disavowed these allegations, invalidating the nine-dash line and China’s territorial claim.
“The border staff kept my passport for around three minutes and after I got it back, I saw ‘F…. you’ was scribbled on two pages where nine-dash line is printed,” Zhong was quoted as saying.
According to Asian Correspondent, Chinese diplomats have lodged a complaint with Vietnam over the issue.
