Filipino President Rodrigo Duterte arrives in Hanoi today for his first state visit to Vietnam.
Earlier this month, Vietnam’s President Tran Dai Quang extended an invitation to the leader of the Philippines at the ASEAN Summit in Laos during President Duterte’s controversial first international visit, reports Tuoi Tre.
The Filipino head of state, whose iron-fist policies and colorful comments have drawn international criticism, will spend two days in the capital.
According to CNN Philippines, President Duterte and President Quang are expected to strengthen diplomatic ties between their respective nations as well as discuss the ongoing East Sea dispute, in which both countries have grievances with China.
