A market vendor in the Mekong Delta province of Tra Vinh is rolling in the dough this week after winning the first-ever jackpot of Mega 6/45, Vietnam’s new computerized lottery.
The contest, which began selling VND10,000 tickets in July, boasted a grand prize of VND92 billion (US$4 million) when 32-year-old Nguyen Thi Anh Dao’s winning number was called, reports VnExpress. At the time, Dao and her family members checked the winning ticket over and over again, unable to believe their eyes.
“We couldn’t sleep all night," Dao told the news source. "We were so happy and at the same time afraid of bad guys.”
Upon hearing the winning number – 05-21-31-33-38-42 – Mega 6/45 sent a car to pick up Dao’s father and a few relatives, who traveled to Saigon to collect Dao’s prize money, reports VnExpress. In total, she will be able to claim US$3.7 million after taxes.
Though Dao has no specific plans yet for the money, she and her family plan to donate VND80 million (US$3,586) of the cash prize to charity as well as 10,000 kg of rice to poor people in her neighborhood.
