Back Near Me » Press Releases » Vũ Thanh Vân Officially Releases Her Debut Album Titled “Cuộc Đào Tẩu Của Vũ Thanh Vân”

January 9, 2026 — Vu Thanh Van officially releases her debut album titled The Great Escape of Vu Thanh Van. The album consists of 10 tracks and marks a new chapter in her musical journey.

The Great Escape of Vu Thanh Van is Vu Thanh Van’s first full-length album. The record features songs written over a two-year period from 2024 to 2025, along with a completed version of a demo originally written in 2018.

Prior to the album release, two songs from the record were unveiled as singles: “De Danh” (Saved for Later) and “Khong Quan Tam” (Don’t Care). Each track reflects Vu Thanh Van’s distinct songwriting identity. While “De Danh” carries a gentle tone filled with trust and tenderness in love, “Khong Quan Tam” explores a different emotional depth - one of detachment and release amid chaos and despair. Together, these singles not only showcased Vu Thanh Van’s songwriting and creative abilities, but also sparked curiosity about her debut album.

Before releasing her debut album, Vu Thanh Van had previously introduced three EPs:

After Party (2021)
Het Suc That Long (2022)
Gia Ma Anh Hieu (2023)

After Party reflects Vu Thanh Van’s thoughts at the age of 25, as she confronted the pressures of adulthood - navigating career aspirations, family responsibilities, financial concerns, and emotional relationships. Following that, Het Suc That Long marked a phase of self-acceptance, learning to embrace reality and the past in order to understand where she needed to go next. With Gia Ma Anh Hieu, Vu Thanh Van transitioned from the young woman portrayed in Het Suc That Long into a more mature and emotionally grounded individual.

Vu Thanh Van and “The Great Escape”

“I moved to Ho Chi Minh City six years ago, and this is my first album. Looking back at my musical journey, I see it as a successful escape,” Vu Thanh Van shared.

The Great Escape of Vu Thanh Van is a personal travel diary - documenting lessons learned and life experiences that reshaped her perspective and contributed to her growth. For Vu Thanh Van, this journey is cyclical rather than linear. The concept of “escape” here does not necessarily mean running away or leaving something behind, but rather finding another way to return to one’s true self.

Amid the rapid growth of Vietnam’s independent music scene, this album represents a significant step in Vu Thanh Van’s effort to balance her personal artistic identity with a broader connection to mainstream audiences.

With The Great Escape of Vu Thanh Van, she continues to affirm her position within both the Vietnamese music landscape and the indie movement in particular, further developing her songwriting, emotional expression, and modern music production approach.

Track-by-Track Narrative

The album opens with “Ban Do Kho Bau” (Treasure Map), which likens loving and understanding another person to a long expedition - where the true value lies not in the destination, but in patience, empathy, and the ability to accept the past.

“Bi Mat” (Secrets) explores intimacy in love, portraying two people becoming each other’s safe place — trusting enough to reveal their most vulnerable sides.

“Di Theo Buom Dem” (Following the Night Moths) was written during winter nights in Hanoi, telling the story of lonely individuals still drawn toward light, no matter how fragile it may be.

In contrast, “Tinh Dau” (First Love) draws inspiration from temptation and illusion, reflecting the loss of control driven by desire and the pursuit of unreal love.

The spirit of solitude and rebirth is clearly expressed in “Lai Mot Lan” (Once Again) - a song about falling apart, self-healing, and finding the strength to stand up again after repeated failures.

“Khong Quan Tam” (Don’t Care) places individuals within a decaying world shaped by indifference, where emotional numbness stems not from apathy, but from helplessness.

In “Con Moi & Tho San” (Prey & Hunter), Vu Thanh Van writes about emotional defense mechanisms in love - how past wounds cause people to remain guarded, while learning to believe that gentleness and safety can coexist.

“De Danh” (Saved for Later) continues as a reflection on trust, patience, and self-worth in the process of waiting for meaningful love.

“Ket Xe” (Traffic Jam) captures an everyday slice of urban life, where being stuck in traffic heightens the longing to return to a specific person. Closing the album, “Khu Vuon” (The Garden) opens a softer, more serene space — where love, both for others and oneself, is nurtured through respect and care, forming the foundation for a hopeful future.
