Saigon Opens First Public Security Surveillance Center

This week, Saigon opened its first-ever high-tech public security center.

According to VnExpress, the facility connects to 240 surveillance cameras throughout 15 wards in District 5. These CCTV feeds are also integrated with digital maps plotting their location.

The new center is capable of storing surveillance footage and seeks to assist local authorities in responding to criminal activity in a more timely manner.

“Centers like this will play a vital role in ensuring security and social order in the city,” Vice Chairman Huynh Cach Mang of Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee told the news outlet.

In 2017, municipal officials plan to connect roughly 1,000 remaining cameras in other districts to the public security center, which will be assessed after a year of operation. If successful, the city government may open additional centers elsewhere in the southern hub.
