Ever wondered what your life would be like if characters from Ghibli movies exist in the real world?
Animated movies can sometimes be brushed off as kids’ stuff due to the simple nature of their plotlines and the vibrancy of their aethetics. However, if you’ve ever watched a feature by Japanese film company Studio Ghibli, you would agree that this assessment is complete hokum. Crafted by director Hayao Miyazaki, the studio’s works are complex, thoughtful and visually stunning stories that appeal to fans of all ages.
Korean visual artist Kojer is obviously a big Ghibli fan, judging by the amount of work they have dedicated to this short video, simply titled Studio Ghibli in Real Life. The clip is closer to a montage than a short film, due to its non-linear nature.
Kojer took main characters from the Japanese studio’s movies and merged them with footage filmed in real locations in Japan and Korea. This might sound like a cakewalk, but what makes the video so spot-on is how well the animation and physical venues match. From the color to the scale of the characters, everything was combined with attention to details to make the blend as seamless as possible.
