Hai Phuong was first released in Vietnam on February 22 and hit theaters in Canada and the United States in March. With more than VND200 billion in revenue, Hai Phuong was the highest-grossing Vietnamese movie of all time for two months until the release of Avengers: EndgameHai Phuong will also be screened in Chinese theaters in the near future, although dates haven't yet been announced.

So far, the Ngo Thanh Van feature has received positive feedback from moviegoers and critics, gaining a 90% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

"Notable third for its sly shift from basic genre outing to self-conscious genre outing," writes Matthew Lickona from the San Diego Reader, adding that "star Veronica Ngo takes her lumps with aplomb, and director Le-Van Kiet knows how to film a fight scene."
