Instead of demolishing their old home and building a new structure on top of it, a business in Da Nang decided to keep the house’s frame and give it a makeover instead.

The refurbishment project, titled Phong House, was completed in January this year on a 100-square-meter lot by VHL Architecture. The Da Nang architecture firm  transformed a furniture store and workshop into an office-residential structure.

In the end, they opted for an open concept that blurs the line between floors and living areas. The shopfront was outfitted with an extensive metallic mesh façade that serves as an improvised trellis for climbing vines and other plants.

The owner seems to also enjoy Vietnam’s geometrical tiles – they are featured both in the front yard and on the counter section for the house’s kitchen.
