From the organizer: No architect has shaped the Sydney CBD skyline like modernist Harry Seidler. Prolific and frequently controversial, Seidler's work, which dates from the 60s, 70s and 80s, remains some of the most visible in the harbour city.
Join Saigon based architect, Andrew Currie for a talk that combines personal reflections from his time working as an apprentice with Seidler in the 1980s, with a screening of the recent documentary “Harry Seidler: Modernist”. Andrew will also discuss working closely with, and learning from, the ‘master architect’. He was privileged to also work with Seidler's artist contemporaries; Photographer Max Dupain, American artist Frank Stella and Danish ceramist Lyn Utzon, daughter of the famed architect of the Sydney Opera House, Jorn Utzon.
Andrew Currie is co-founder and creative director at OUT-2 Design, one of Vietnam’s leading architecture and design practices. Born in Australia, Andrew spent his formative childhood years in Singapore, a national state being transformed by the ideals of modernity and modernist architecture.
Returning to Australia in the 1980’s, Andrew commenced an apprentice with Austrian-born Australian architect Harry Seidler, a revered and often controversial architect considered to be one of the leading exponents of Modernism, and the first architect to fully express the principles of the Bauhaus in Australia.
