Vietnamese Lacquer Painting’s Experimental History @ The Factory Contemporary Art Center

Phi Phi Oanh’s work is characterised by an experimental and conceptual approach to Vietnamese lacquer, especially through her radical re-imagining of the material possibilities of the vóc (the wooden substrate traditionally used for lacquer painting). But how does her work relate to the history of modern Vietnamese lacquer painting?

+ Ariel Bui is a Vietnamese-American musician based out of Nashville, Tennessee, also known as Music City, USA. American Songwriter magazine says her music “pushes all sorts of boundaries” by spanning many genres and being hard to define.
