ENVOY OF ART Exhibition

- Nguyen Tri Minh and his impressions of the landscape

Nguyen Tri Minh was born on December 15, 1924 in Cho Lon, Vietnam. He studied at the Gia Dinh School of Drawing (L’Ecole de Dessin de Gia Dinh). His efforts bear fruit when he graduated valedictorian in 1946. After graduation he was invited to participate in numerous art exhibitions in Vietnam and overseas - at the Opera House in Saigon, Pearl of the Orient, to the Museum of Modern Art in Paris, City of Light. His painting style is a wondrous fusion of East and West, combining free and energetic strokes with joyful and balanced colors. As such, his paintings are collected by admirers all across the globe. Re-settled in the U.S. in 1975, he continued to paint and to teach as in Vietnam. In Vietnam, his landscape paintings with lotus ponds and bamboo hedges won over many critics. When overseas, during trips for art exhibitions or after resettlement, he continued to highlight the beauty of nature in large, mural-size paintings, including landscapes such as the waterlily ponds and willows in Giverny, France, the home of Claude Monet. It is a proud moment for Vietnamese art when his annual classes on introduction to paintings at colleges in New York had to turn away students due to over-interest. He passed away on October 16, 2010 at 86 years of age, in the loving memory of his wife, Pauline Nhung Nguyen and students, including artists and art gallery owners who had studied from the teacher arriving from the East.
