The exhibition Mother-of-Pearl Inlay Heritage by Emmie Mai Linh Massias and Marine Col is an exploration of Vietnamese mother-of-pearl inlay as used in interior design. By merging traditional handcrafting techniques with contemporary industrial production, the artist duo reinterprets a craft once influenced by the French colonial era while preserving its authentic Vietnamese identity.
Through contemporary techniques, Emmie and Marine not only honor the enduring beauty of this craft but also breathe new life into a heritage that is gradually fading.
Amalgame Studio, founded by Marine Col and Emmie Mai Linh Massias in Guadalajara, Mexico, serves as a hub for research, experimentation, and the creation of objects and furniture, fostering deep connections with diverse regions and their material cultures. Inspired by the concept of "amalgam"—an unexpected blend of contrasting elements—the two artists incorporate diverse influences to produce works that vividly express contrasts and contradictions.
Come explore the exhibition and immerse yourself in the enchanting beauty of mother-of-pearl and the stories it tells!
The Villa Saigon program is open to artists or artist groups of French nationality or residing in France, working in all artistic disciplines with a focus on contemporary creation. The program aims to strengthen and promote artistic dialogue between France and Vietnam.
