“Not Brook but Ocean should be his name”.
- Ludwig Van Beethoven
("Bach" is the German word for "brook")
When the genius Ludwig van Beethoven uttered these words about Johann Sebastian Bach, he offered more than mere praise for a great composer. It was a profound insight into the soul of a musical legacy as vast as the ocean itself: deep, surging, holding innumerable treasures, and serving as the very fountainhead from which the river of Western classical music flows.
For over three centuries, that ocean has never ceased its powerful tides. The golden melodies of the Baroque era, immortalized by Bach's hand, have become timeless. Each performance reveals new layers of meaning, new shimmering facets of beauty previously unseen. The concert, "The Music of Johann Sebastian Bach," is a grand voyage back to this magnificent origin, allowing us to immerse ourselves in his most exquisite chamber masterpieces.
This voyage will guide the soul through the elegant and familiar realms of the Orchestral Suite No. 2 in B minor, BWV 1067. It will then venture into the captivating and dramatic dialogues of his concertos: the Concerto for Keyboard and Strings, BWV 1052 AR and the Concerto for Violin, Oboe, and Strings, BWV 1060 AR, before coming to anchor at the shores of the sublime Concerto for 2 Violins in D minor, BWV 1043 - a pinnacle that every distinguished artist aspires to conquer.
We cordially invite you to join us, to listen, to feel, and to commune with the "soul of the Baroque." This concert is co-organized by Saigon Classical, Joy Foundation, the Vietnam Connection Music Festival (VNCMF), and the Saigon Chamber Music Society, with the support of MORICO as part of the A Master Series Concert project. The event also proudly marks the 10th anniversary of the Vietnam Connection Music Festival.
