A special workshop that only appears once in a while. Over two hours of hands-on practice, participants will be guided through poetic recitation, spoken verse (nói lối), singing selected cải lương excerpts, and the classic piece “Dạ cổ hoài lang.” This provides just enough foundation for you to hum along when the mood strikes, cover cải lương songs you have heard before, or join in and connect whenever the moment calls for it.

Especially for those who may not know, the workshop will be led by artisan Sáu Hưng, who previously performed with the Trần Hữu Trang Cải Lương Troupe. He is truly a master instructor who will help you enter the world of cải lương in a structured and authentic way.

About artisan Sáu Hưng and artisan Song Oanh:
Artisans Nguyen Van Hung and Nguyen Song Oanh are members of the first cohort of Theatre Arts School No. 2 (now the Ho Chi Minh City University of Theatre and Cinema). They are also members of the Tam Danh Traditional Music Club (Ho Chi Minh City Heritage Association) and have performed and exchanged traditional music across many provinces. They have supported students of the University of Culture and taught đàn kìm and traditional singing to younger generations. Notably, artisan Sáu Hưng is also the founder of the Sáu Hưng Traditional Music Ensemble, the core artist group behind the “Diễn xướng Nam Bộ” performance series, contributed to the book “Đường vào Đờn ca tài tử,” and participated as an artist in the “Phong hoa ca vịnh” project.
