About the Speakers
MICHAEL TURINSKY
Artist and theorist
Michael Turinsky is an artist and theorist living and working in Vienna (Austria) and is physically disabled. His practice lies at the intersection of contemporary dance, performance art, disability studies, as well as political and aesthetic theory.
Academically trained as a philosopher at the University of Vienna, Michael began working in inclusive dance in 2006. Later, he critically examined the very concept of “inclusion” and proposed his own term, “crip choreography”, to describe his unique artistic practice: an approach that engages with the materiality of the body, which is distinctive and resistant, through processes of overturning, deconstructing, and reorganizing dominant forms of movement.
Known for his distinctive aesthetic language, ironic references to popular culture, musical qualities in his works, and intellectual rigor, Michael’s major choreographic works include:
Heteronomous male (2012), My body, your pleasure (2014), Reverberations (2018), Precarious Moves (2021), SOILED (2022).
His solo piece “Precarious Moves” received the prestigious Nestroy Prize for Best Off-Production in 2021.
In 2024, Michael Turinsky was honored as an “Outstanding Artist” by the Austrian Federal Ministry for Arts and Culture.

LÊ THỊ ĐỨC HẠNH
Interdisciplinary artist (discussion moderator)
Lê Thị Đức Hạnh is an artist based in Ho Chi Minh City. Since 2019, she has worked deeply with movement and the body. Her artistic approach emerges from graphic design practice and a background in psychotherapy, combined with experimental projects that have shaped her perspective on movement, emotion, and spirit.
From 2023 to 2024, Hạnh received a scholarship to study Creative Dance using the Mettler method in Arizona. She sees the potential for recovery, identity reconstruction, and co-creation through organic movement.
The projects she participates in stem from personal expression within contexts of internal migration and global integration. Her practice views the body as a vessel of consciousness, using movement as a reflective tool and a way to question society.
In 2025, after graduating in Psychology, she continues her academic path, researching performance art as a critical practice and applying dance and movement to social development.
During this visit, Michael Turinsky will meet audiences and artists in Vietnam through workshops and talks in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City initiated by the Goethe-Institut.
Activities in Ho Chi Minh City are organized through collaboration between the Goethe-Institut Ho Chi Minh City and the social enterprise Đời Rất Đẹp (DrD Vietnam), with support from EMASI Nam Long.
