Recently, Trigger Film Academy officially announced a special screening event for the documentary film "Màu Cỏ Úa" (2020) by director Lan Nguyên. The event marks the return of the film to the big screen, portraying the life of the “wandering minstrel” — musician Trần Tiến.

First released in 2020, "Màu Cỏ Úa" takes audiences through three pivotal periods in the life of musician Trần Tiến: the wartime years, his time closely connected with the capital city of Hanoi, and his peaceful retirement years in the coastal city of Vũng Tàu. Throughout the film are valuable archival images, weathered by time, capturing moments of his life alongside major figures of Vietnamese music such as Phạm Duy, Trịnh Công Sơn, and the "Red River Quartet" (Phó Đức Phương, Dương Thụ, Nguyễn Cường, Trần Tiến).

Previously, due to the niche audience typically associated with musical documentaries, "Màu Cỏ Úa" did not pursue a wide commercial release. Instead, the film was primarily screened in limited settings at smaller cinemas, aimed at audiences who appreciate the spirit of wandering music.

The film was crafted by Lan Nguyên — a self-taught female director who graduated from the University of Architecture. With her keen observational perspective, she often begins her films with personal questions that gradually open into broader conversations about memory, culture, and people. Lan Nguyên is also the director behind other notable documentary projects such as: Những Vết Thương Lành (2023 – Exclusive on Netflix Southeast Asia) and Chân Trời Rực Rỡ (2025 – Released nationwide in Galaxy Cinema theaters).

This special screening not only allows audiences to revisit the musical world of Trần Tiến but also includes a live discussion session. After the screening, viewers will have the opportunity to talk directly with director Lan Nguyên to learn more about the filmmaking process and the behind-the-scenes stories of creating a documentary about a great artist.
