The Thong Dong Ngẫm Ngợi philosophy talk series is organized with the aim of presenting and discussing the influences and applications of philosophy in contemporary life. Philosophy, through the guidance and dialogue of Bùi Văn Nam Sơn and his collaborators, is not something distant or abstract, but something that can permeate every corner of the inner self and the outer world.

MAIN CONTENT OF SESSION 02: THE OCEAN OF THE PSYCHE: CARL JUNG FROM A PHILOSOPHICAL PERSPECTIVE

If Sigmund Freud led us to confront the “abyss” of the mind, Carl Jung invites humanity to immerse itself in an “ocean” vast with universal psychic structures.

In a time when modern individuals are adrift in a crisis of meaning, this talk with philosopher-researcher Bùi Văn Nam Sơn will unpack key concepts of depth psychology (Tiefenpsychologie) to revisit Carl Jung’s grand metaphysical project. Together, we will trace Jung’s intellectual seeds from the limits of reason in Kant, Goethe’s “Urphänomen,” Schopenhauer’s “Will,” to Schelling’s “dark ground.” In particular, the session will examine the historical rupture between Freud and Jung as a paradigm shift in how we “read” the world, while opening multidimensional dialogues with Paul Ricoeur, alchemical philosophy, and Eastern wisdom.

The talk promises to create an open, friendly, and academically rich space for exchange and discussion.
