Loyalty to the nation, filial devotion to one’s parents, which should weigh more heavily?
Aïda is captured and taken to Egypt, a valuable spoil of war in the conflict between Egypt and Æthiopia. Forced to conceal her royal origins from the defeated kingdom, she becomes a slave serving Princess Amneris. Meanwhile, Radamès, a brilliant Egyptian military commander, secretly falls in love with the gentle slave girl, completely unaware of her true identity. When Æthiopia rises in counterattack and Egypt prepares for war, Radamès is appointed commander-in-chief in the name of his homeland. But the hidden love between them, forbidden on every side, already seems like a trap laid by fate. As political conflict escalates and their feelings deepen, the painful truth will inevitably be revealed, forcing the innocent young lovers to choose – loyalty to the nation or filial duty – along with the vows they have made to one another.
