Yêu nữ #5

Join Yêu-nữ in tracing the history and memories of women who love women, transgender men and non-binary people (LBQ+) in Vietnam.

Format: Offline in D3, HCMC (The detailed location will be sent by email to registered participants)
Time: Saturday, 26/09/2026

WHAT WILL WE DO TOGETHER?

The program consists of 2 main activity sessions:

Afternoon (2:00PM - 6:00PM): Archiving and Zine Making

  • Archive Display & Sharing: Listen to stories from guests who own collections of CDs, newspapers, posters and research materials... from the 2000s to the present. Together, we will observe how the media has portrayed LBQ+ people, as well as explore the ways the community has resisted, opposed, created or played with the ways outsiders have told their stories.
  • Zine Making Practice - "Reclaiming" the Narrative: A zine is a small magazine that you can produce yourself. Yêu-nữ will prepare some archival materials and old images about the community. From there, we will cut, paste and gather these old fragments together, transforming them into a work that carries a personal story in the present.

For this part, we encourage you to bring an item (book, newspaper, poster,...) about the LBQ+ community that was published a long time ago and that you own. You will have space to share more about the item and your memories and thoughts connected to it.

Evening (7:00PM - 10:00PM): Film Screening and Interaction

  • Screening of “Trái cấm” (2015): Together, we will watch the first episode of a pioneering LGBT web series from more than 10 years ago. The film revolves around 2 female protagonists and 3 transgender men at an all-girls school. Despite its many limitations, it was one of the few films made by the community about the community at that time.
  • Interaction & Discussion: While watching the film, we will have interactive activities between the audience and the film. Through this, we will listen and share about how deeply rooted norms move and shift, as well as think about how we can move forward together.
