For this inaugural screening, Cuội Theater is proud to introduce two debut works by two young female filmmakers. Huỳnh Ly is a stage and film actress, while Minh Anh Anh works as a film editor. Holding the camera for the very first time, following their subjects without a script or fiction, and guided purely by friendship and genuine curiosity, they have crafted two stories overflowing with femininity.

Above The Noize (Cao Hơn Những Thanh Âm) – Directed by Minh Anh Anh (2026)

A young man plays hardcore music – an intense, liberating genre marked by heavy guitars, driving basslines, pounding drums, and raw, near-screaming vocals with powerful lyrics. His live shows, filled with eclectic crowds and mosh pits, are an integral part of how he lives and connects with the world. By his side is a deaf girl who experiences life through different senses, standing as his most steadfast and proud supporter whenever he takes the stage.

My Pá's Machine - Directed by Trần Dực Lượng (2025)

After 1975, my father chose to stay in Vietnam and continue his life through the craft of wire mesh weaving. The film offers a close-up, simple look at those machines - a way of documenting his journey through over 30 years as a working-class man.
