Covering the movement element of Hanoi Switch - An Exhibition: Created in isolation, Hanoi Dance Company will be performing a contemporary dance piece this Sunday on the terrace at W Square.
Sunday will also be the last day of the exhibition so there will be a post performance music session and decompression - more info to follow.
The choreography by Emily George, a contemporary dance teacher based in Hanoi, was created during quarantine and is about the collective anxiety that everyone is feeling around the world due to Covid-19.
Performance is set to start at sunset (18:00).
Title: Mad World (pt 1 & 2)
Part 1 explores the shared anxiety that people are facing all over the world due to fear of covid and feeling of being trapped in our own enclosed spaces for extended periods of time. Constantly feeling uncertain about our careers, health and of course the state of the world as we know it takes a toll on our psyche and for many people these thoughts and feelings are new and confusing.
Part 2 is inspired by the healing process of finding an outlet for our feelings whether that be creative, physical, or otherwise. It's that moment when we discover a coping mechanism which allows us to focus our attention on something other than our fears. The ability to switch off and give your brain and nervous system a temporary break like going for a run, singing a song at the top of your lungs, or watching a gripping film. It's finding a moment of happiness amidst all the doom and gloom.
A little about the dancers - they are creative souls who are dancing for pure joy some have been trained some are not, just simply sharing a connection through the emotions and feelings of the movement.
