It's the latest step in efforts to combat the pandemic.
Amid the ongoing COVID-19 outbreak, VnExpress reports that employees at all 21 of Vietnam's active airports will be tested for the virus over the next few days.
Every staff member at Tan Son Nhat, Cam Ranh, Can Tho, Vinh and Lien Khuong has already been tested, with their results coming back negative, an Airports Corporation of Vietnam representative told the news source. The remaining 16 will complete testing soon, with Noi Bai in Hanoi testing the most people: 3,200 overall.
Van Don Airport in Quang Ninh Province is not part of this group as it is currently closed due to a COVID-19 outbreak among its staff. It is currently slated to reopen on February 13.
Airports have also been ordered to take extra precautions during the busy travel period for the upcoming Tet holiday. This includes reporting any passengers displaying COVID-related symptoms to health officials, and also frequently disinfecting all equipment.
Since last week, the Ministry of Health has registered 381 cases of community transmission of the coronavirus after Vietnam went 55 days without any known local cases.
