It’s no secret that Saigoneer has been crushing on Taiwan for quite a while, from its futuristic tech parks to sprawling fish markets. Our love for the island nation was affirmed by a recent survey that ranked the country first place for quality of life.
The survey, compiled by InterNations, was filled out by 14,300 expats from 174 nationalities who have lived in 191 countries or territories. Respondents were asked to rate 43 different aspects of life abroad on a scale of 1-7.
Well-rounded Taiwan led the way in the 67 countries that fit the methodology criteria, despite not leading any subcategory, though it preformed strongest in the Health & Well-Being subcategory, where it came in second.
The country also scored very well when it came to safety (99% of those surveyed rated Taiwan's personal safety favorably), peacefulness (89%) and satisfaction with local transport infrastructure (91%).
Austria continued its strong showing in the annual survey, clinching the second spot with its clean air and healthcare, while 2015 winner Singapore dropped to the eighth spot.
For its part, Vietnam moved up four spots compared to last year’s survey to 42nd, above Columbia and Belgium but below Bahrain and Malaysia. Vietnam scored best in the Leisure Options (35th), Personal Happiness (8th) and Safety and Security (28th) subcategories.
