Hue authorities want to discipline Carlsberg Vietnam for photoshopping beer cans onto pictures of the city's historic architecture.
According to Tuoi Tre, the brewer recently plastered images of Huda Beer cans over pictures of Ngo Mon Gate and Truong Tien Bridge in a promotional campaign on Facebook.
These pictures have allegedly offended local netizens, prompting the company to quickly replace them with the original illustrations.
Speaking to Dan Tri, a representative from Carlsberg Vietnam explained in Vietnamese: "The initial pictures only wanted to show pride in Hue's heritage and a beer product that has long been loved by many."
However Le Si Minh, director of the provincial Department of Information and Communications, said that Carlsberg Vietnam would be penalized for their action. Specifically, the company would have to apologize to the public and pay a fine of between VND10 million (US$440) and VND20 million (US$880).
Minh also added that the pictures were in violation of clause 3, article 3 in Vietnam's Advertising Law, which stipulates against materials that don't conform to Vietnamese tradition, history, culture and customs.
