It looks like Vietnam’s internet issues will persist for the next few weeks as local internet service providers scramble to fix a broken undersea cable.
As VnExpress reports, a source from VNPT shared that the repair process will only begin on July 3 and is expected to take until July 14. However, the representative also added that, depending on the extent of the break, Vietnam’s internet could go back to normal sooner or later than scheduled.
Last Tuesday, June 20, a section of the Asia-Pacific Gateway (APG) about 125 kilometers off of Da Nang broke. Therefore, the country’s connection to international networks in Japan, Hong Kong and the US was significantly affected, especially in central Vietnam, according to Tuoi Tre.
The APG currently carries most of Asia’s data connections at a maximum capacity of 54 terabits per second.
