Central Vietnam Braces for Superstorm Wutip

Superstorm Wutip, currently around 200km off Vietnam’s central coast, is expected to make landfall at 4pm this afternoon.

With maximum winds of 149kph, local authorities in Ha Tinh are in the process of evacuating 22,000 residents from vulnerable areas and converting schools into shelters.

According to the National Center for Hydro-meteorology Forecast, the typhoon will make landfall in the central provinces from Ha Tinh to Quang, with maximum wind power of 102 kph and will later weaken into a tropical depression.

The National Steering Committee for Flood and Storm Control said that the border guard forces of the central provinces have alerted more than 61,000 ships and 300,000 people of the movements of the storm.
