After a year abroad, Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh has returned to Vietnam for a short visit.
VnExpress reports that Master Thich Nhat Hanh landed in Da Nang last Friday, October 26 from Bangkok. The revered Buddhist leader was welcome by throngs of local monks and followers at the airport.
Hanh will spend a few days in Da Nang and then head to his hometown in Thua Thien-Hue Province. Specifically, the master will pay a visit to Tu Hieu Pagoda in Hue, where he started practicing Buddhism. Since his departure in 1966, this is Hanh’s fifth visit in the country, after trips in 2005, 2007, 2008 and 2017.
The gap between 2008 and 2017 was because in 2014, Hanh suffered a stroke and was hospitalized for months. He also had to undergo therapy in the US. Born in 1926, Thich Nhat Hanh is now 92 years old, but still in considerably good health. In August 2017, the master also made time for a visit to his hometown and a few teaching sessions with local Buddhist followers.
In September last year, a documentary about his life, work and philosophy — titled Walk With Me — was also released in theaters worldwide.
