Vietnam's National Football Team Valued at $1.9m

How much would you be willing to spend on the national team?

According to Transfermarkt, a UK-based football statistics and news site, Vietnam's national football team has a market value of US$1.9 million as of April 4. The value was calculated based on the lineup of 23 players that competed for Vietnam in the Asian Cup 2019.

Dang Van Lam, the team's goalkeeper, has the highest value on the team at US$356,000. He currently plays for SCG Muangthong United in Thailand. Meanwhile, central midfielder Luong Xuan Truong is worth US$237,000, according to the site. Tied at third place on the list is center-forward Nguyen Cong Phuong, attacking midfielder Nguyen Quang Hai and left-back Doan Van Hau, who all have a market value of US$178,000.

This is the first time the entire lineup of Vietnam’s national football team has made it onto the Transfermarkt's value list. According to the same source, in 2018, the whole team had a modest value of US$90,000. The huge update on the Vietnam team from Transfermarkt is the result of a string of successful tournament appearances by the Golden Stars, as reported by Tuoi Tre.

Vietnam finished second at the 2018 AFC U-23 Championship and sealed the fourth position at the 2018 Asian Games. They also memorably won the 2018 AFF Cup and advanced to the 2019 Asian Cup quarterfinals.
