At the third Nuclear Security Summit in The Hague, the Netherlands earlier this week, US President, Barack Obama told Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung that he would visit Vietnam soon, reports Thanh Nien.
The US and Vietnam recently signed an agreement on nuclear technology and are working to conclude Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) negotiations with the former likely being the driving force behind his visit.
Of the 12 member countries involved in the TPP, Vietnam stands to gain the most from the agreement, according to analysts.
If approved, TPP would open the US market to Vietnamese products, particularly garments, footwear and farm produce.
The last US President to visit Vietnam was George W. Bush in 2006.
