According to Flight Global, the leading international airline news source, Vietnam Airlines has received a foreign air carrier permit from the US Department of Transportation.
The national flag carrier is now cleared to operate flights from Hanoi and Saigon to Los Angeles, San Francisco, New York, Seattle and Dallas-Fort Worth through Taipei, Osaka and Nagoya.
Flights will also be allowed to continue on to Vancouver, Montreal and Toronto in Canada, the news source adds.
Vietnam received Category 1 status from US authorities in February, giving local airlines the green-light to work towards offering flights to North America. VietJet Air and Bamboo Airways have also expressed interest in offering US flights, though neither owns big enough planes to do so yet.
There is no timeline for when VNA will begin selling tickets for flights to the US, but they are now one step closer to doing so.
