She will become the first sitting US Vice President to visit Vietnam.
CNN reports that Vice President Kamala Harris is scheduled to travel to Singapore and Vietnam later this month. The news source quotes a statement that "her trip will build on the Biden-Harris Administration's message to the world: America is back."
Harris will be the highest-ranking member of the Biden administration to visit Asia thus far,. The trip will take place from August 20 to 26, though a detailed itinerary is not available yet. Expected topics of discussion include the COVID-19 pandemic, regional security and climate change.
Harris' planned trip follows a recent regional tour by US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin, who met his Vietnamese counterparts in Hanoi on July 29, in addition to stopping in Singapore and the Philippines.
