Former Mrs. Vietnam Global was sentenced to prison in Washington State last week for growing and trading marijuana.
The court sentenced Tristine Tram Bui, Mrs. Vietnam Global 2012 to 3 years in prison for her involvement in a grow operation which included nearly 1,900 plants, reports Thanh Nien.
Since she is pregnant, she will start serving her sentence in February 2015, 1 month after she gives birth.
Police began investigating the couple after they were pulled over with .5 kilos of marijuana and $9,000 in their Mercedes in February 2012. 3 months later, their building caught fire and police found 700 cannabis plants.
Shortly after, authorities found 2 other houses belonging to the couple with a total of 1,189 plants and 13 kilos of the drug.
According to court documents, Bui married an American and moved to the US only to divorce him after arriving. She then married Keith Ly, her partner in the growing operation.
Bui had won first prize at the 2012 Mrs. Vietnam Global beauty competition which is held annually and open to married Vietnamese women from all over the world.
For some reason we feel more compassion for the old man who was caught growing marijuana in a HCMC graveyard last week.
