Get ready for a month of slow internet. According to ICT News, the Asia-America Gateway cable that lies off of Vung Tau has broken down in what is seemingly becoming a bi-annual event.
On July 15, VHost reported that the Asia-America Gateway (AAG) cable has encountered an undisclosed problem 18km off the coast of Vung Tau, causing service interruptions for users in Vietnam.
The disruption has slowed connection speeds between Vietnam and websites hosted in the U.S., Japan, Hong Kong, Korea and Europe. Transmission within Vietnam remains normal.
The cause of the disturbance and repair operations are being carried out by VHost and AAG's operator which said that it may take a few weeks to fix the problem.
Even though FPT Telecom has put backup plans into effect, there have been complaints from customers about slow Internet speeds.
Bring on the Chinese oil rig conspiracy theories.
