On Saturday night, 3 consecutive earthquakes shook Son La Province, with the most powerful reaching 4.3 on the Richter scale, reports Tuoi Tre.
According to the center under the Institute of Global Physics, the quakes, which occurred between 7:14pm and 9:42pm, were centered in Muong La District, which lies above the active Muong La-Bac Yen fault line. The quake’s aftershocks were strong enough that they were felt in Hanoi, 278km away.
Near the epicenter, the tremors lasted for about 30 seconds and locals rushed out of their homes as items in the house began to fall to the ground.
Over the years, Son La Province has had its fair share of earthquakes with at least 3 significant tremors reported since 2009.
